Palisades Hanukkah Celebration Emphasizes Hope Amidst Global Tragedy
In Pacific Palisades, California, the Jewish community gathered for a Hanukkah celebration amidst heightened security following a tragic shooting at a Jewish festival in Sydney, Australia. The attack in Sydney, which occurred at Bondi Beach, resulted in the deaths of at least 15 people and injuries to 38 others. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the act as antisemitic terrorism. In response, the Palisades community, led by Rabbi Zushe Cunin of the Chabad Jewish Community Center, held their annual menorah lighting ceremony with increased security measures. The event, which took place at the Palisades Village mall, was marked by a strong sense of resilience and community solidarity. Attendees, including property developer Rick Caruso, emphasized the importance of hope and unity in the face of adversity.
