Robert 'Bob' Melvin Gale, Noted Vancouver Builder, Dies at 94
Robert 'Bob' Melvin Gale, a prominent figure in Vancouver's construction industry, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 30, 2026, at his home in West Vancouver. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1932, Bob moved to Vancouver in 1938, where he became deeply involved in the Boy Scouts and pursued a degree in Civil Engineering from UBC. He led Turnbull and Gale Construction, contributing significantly to the city's architectural landscape, including the conversion of the old courthouse into the Vancouver Art Gallery. After retiring, Bob volunteered with CESO and the Frontiers Foundation, advising on construction and business management. He is survived by his wife, Karen, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, no service will be held.
