Chicago Excluded from 2028 Democratic National Convention Host City Selection
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has announced that Chicago will not be among the host cities for the 2028 Democratic presidential nominating convention. The DNC narrowed its list of potential host cities to Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia, eliminating Chicago and Atlanta from contention. This decision comes shortly after Illinois was also excluded from the states holding the earliest Democratic presidential primaries in 2028. Chicago had hosted the 2024 Democratic National Convention, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a significant donor to the party, had campaigned for both the convention's return and an early primary slot for the state. Despite Chicago's recent successful hosting of the 2024 convention, and its historical role in hosting numerous past conventions, the DNC opted for other cities. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago 2028 Bid Committee expressed their commitment to supporting the chosen host city and noted that Chicago remains a strong contender for the 2032 convention.
