Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Kansas City and Surrounding Areas
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Kansas City and several counties in northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. The watch, announced by the National Weather Service, is in effect until 10:00 PM CDT on Sunday, September 6, 2026. The affected areas in Kansas include Johnson, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Miami, Atchison, and Doniphan counties. On the Missouri side, the watch covers Jackson, Clay, Cass, Platte, Buchanan, Johnson, Lafayette, Ray, Clinton, Andrew, Nodaway, Caldwell, Daviess, DeKalb, Harrison, Atchison, Holt, Gentry, and Worth counties. The primary concerns are downburst winds and hail, with severe thunderstorm warnings already issued for specific areas within the watch zone.
