Seattle Ranks Sixth in U.S. for High Car Ownership Costs, Impacting Residents
Seattle has been identified as the sixth-most expensive city in the United States to own a car, according to a study by Plasma One, a stablecoin neobank. The study evaluated the 100 most populous U.S. cities, considering factors such as average annual insurance costs, fuel prices, hours spent in traffic, median income, and the cost of living. Seattle's high ranking is attributed to its significant annual fuel costs, averaging $2,912.88, and insurance costs of $2,199. Additionally, Seattle residents face substantial traffic-related expenses, averaging $2,373.88 annually, placing the city just behind New York and Chicago in this regard. Despite having the second-highest median income among the top 20 cities at $121,984, the overall cost of car ownership remains burdensome for Seattleites. Philadelphia tops the list as the most expensive city for car ownership, primarily due to its lower median income.
