Pittsburgh Faces Decline in Major TV and Film Productions Amid Industry Slowdown
Pittsburgh is experiencing a significant reduction in major TV and film productions, reflecting a broader national trend. The final season of 'Mayor of Kingstown,' starring Jeremy Renner, recently completed filming in the city, and the locally filmed 'Nocturne' is set to debut on Apple TV. However, beyond these projects, the local film industry is seeing a lull. This downturn is part of a nationwide contraction in the industry, exacerbated by the end of the Peak TV era and the impact of the 2023 writers' and actors' strikes. The Pittsburgh Film Office, led by Dawn Keezer, highlights the importance of Pennsylvania's film tax credit program, which has been capped at $100 million since 2022, as a critical factor in attracting productions. Despite the current slowdown, there is hope for future projects, with some inquiries being made.
