Southwest Las Vegas Residents Report Mail Theft as Federal Lawmakers Push Security Measures
Residents in southwest Las Vegas are experiencing a significant increase in mail theft, leading to financial fraud and personal loss. Bonnie Tollefson reported that her mail was stolen from a neighborhood cluster mailbox, and a credit card taken from the missing mail was used for over $600 in unauthorized charges. She was informed by a postal clerk that there has been extensive theft in the area, including the theft of a master key. Another resident, Brian Kaszuba, also had his mail stolen from a locked neighborhood box, including a handmade gift from his grandmother. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service in Las Vegas confirmed an active investigation into these thefts, with Inspector Trevor Hudson stating that leads are being pursued. Despite a national decrease in mail theft complaints by 34% and a 19% reduction in letter carrier robberies since Project Safe Delivery was introduced in May 2023, local residents express frustration over the lack of immediate resolution and communication from authorities.
