Illinois Governor Pritzker Appoints Members to New Northern Illinois Transit Authority Board
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has announced his appointments to the new Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) board. This new board is set to replace the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) in less than two weeks, effective September 1st. The NITA board will have broad authority over the CTA, Metra, and Pace transit systems. Governor Pritzker's appointees include Nedra Sims Fears, Rosa Ortiz, Bashir Qaasim, Vanessa Uribe, and Nirali Shah. He also reappointed Neema Jha to serve on the CTA board. These appointments require approval from the Illinois State Senate. The governor stated that his appointees will be crucial in modernizing Illinois' transit systems, strengthening operations, making necessary upgrades, and better connecting communities across the state. The new transit funding and reform legislation, approved last fall, is expected to generate over $1 billion annually for the region's mass transit.
