Amnesty International Criticizes Netherlands' Proposed Laws for Discrimination and Privacy Violations
Amnesty International, alongside other human rights organizations and legal bodies, has voiced strong criticism regarding several proposed laws in the Netherlands. These laws, including the Implementation Act on money laundering and a proposed ban on face-covering clothing during demonstrations, are deemed to pose significant risks of discrimination and violations of privacy. Specifically, the Implementation Act is criticized for potentially allowing banks to deeply intrude into individuals' personal lives through extensive questionnaires and to share sensitive data with various authorities based on vague suspicions. Amnesty International, the College for Human Rights, the Dutch Data Protection Authority, and the Council of State have all highlighted the lack of legal safeguards against discrimination and the insufficient attention to privacy concerns within these legislative proposals.
