USDA Recalls Over 15,000 Pounds of Pork Jowl Due to Listeria Contamination Risk
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall of more than 15,000 pounds of ready-to-eat dry-cured pork jowl products, also known as guanciale. The recall was initiated after a product sample tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes during routine import reinspection testing. The affected products were produced by Est. 1937L Bome SRL in Italy on May 21 and imported into the U.S. on various dates throughout July. These items were distributed to various distributors and food service locations across multiple states, including Illinois, Michigan, Idaho, California, Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Texas. The recalled products include 'PRIME LINE DISTRIBUTORS, INC. GUANCIALE PORK JOWL PRODUCT OF ITALY' and 'FERRARINI GUANCIALE DRY-CURED PORK JOWL' with specific lot numbers and 'BEST IF USE BY DATE: 05.16.27'. Consumers and food service establishments are advised to check for the establishment number 'IT 1937 L CE' on the product labels.
