LaFayette Temporarily Suspends Swimming at Queen City Lake Due to Elevated E. coli Levels
Swimming at Queen City Lake in LaFayette, Georgia, has been temporarily halted following the detection of elevated E. coli levels in the water. This discovery was made during routine water testing conducted in collaboration with the LaFayette High School Marine Biology Club. As a precautionary measure, city officials have closed the swimming area along the shoreline. However, the dock and boat ramp remain open, and fishing activities are still permitted. The elevated bacteria levels are believed to be linked to local wildlife, particularly ducks, gathering near the beach. To mitigate future issues, visitors are being asked not to feed the ducks. The city is committed to daily water testing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as new test results become available.
