QT6 Porting BASIC to Web Browser Enhances Accessibility for Programming Enthusiasts
QT6 is bringing the BASIC programming language to web browsers, allowing users to run BASIC directly in their browser through a webAssembly version. This initiative, led by UglyMike, aims to make BASIC more accessible for educational purposes and nostalgic programming experiences. The port is based on KidBASIC, which was originally targeted at the educational market, and includes features such as graphics routines and 64-bit variables. The multi-platform port supports various systems, including Apple Silicon and Raspberry Pi, although the web version has limitations regarding hardware access. The project is open source, inviting users to compile it on different systems, and is currently in beta, with developers seeking feedback to improve the software.
