AMA Highlights Cybersecurity Threats to Healthcare Providers, Urges Enhanced Defenses
The American Medical Association (AMA) has issued warnings and curated resources for physicians and healthcare staff regarding increasing cybersecurity threats. Recent incidents include a major security flaw in Microsoft SharePoint, which could expose sensitive data and allow unauthorized access to other Microsoft services on the same server. Microsoft has released a patch for this on-site server vulnerability. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) also released a bulletin on increased cyber threats against healthcare providers, fueled by geopolitical conflicts, with state-sponsored hacking employing tactics like password-spraying, phishing, denial-of-service attacks, and ransomware.
