AI Systems Utilize Retrieval Augmented Generation for Enhanced Accuracy and Contextual Responses
Artificial intelligence systems, particularly those employing large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Claude, are increasingly leveraging a technique known as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). RAG systems are designed to overcome the limitations of LLMs, which often have a past cutoff date for their training data and may not possess the most current information. The RAG process involves three key steps: retrieval, augmentation, and generation. First, the system retrieves relevant information from external sources based on a user's query. This retrieval often utilizes semantic search, which matches information based on meaning rather than just keywords, converting queries and data into embeddings for comparison in vector databases. Second, this retrieved information is appended to the user's original query, augmenting the context provided to the LLM. Finally, the LLM generates a response using both the user's query and the augmented information, leading to more accurate and context-aware answers. ...
