BRINK Traveler Expands Virtual Reality Offerings to Virtual Desktop with Iceland Riverbed Environment
BRINK Traveler, developed by BRINK XR, has introduced a new real-world location, Iceland's Landmannalaugar (specifically the Iceland Riverbed), as an immersive environment within Virtual Desktop. This collaboration allows Virtual Desktop users to access a 3D captured environment, offering a more dynamic experience than traditional 360-degree photos or videos. Unlike fixed viewpoints, BRINK's technology enables users to move within a small area with six degrees of freedom, enhancing the sense of scale and depth. The integration required significant optimization, as BRINK's environments typically push standalone VR hardware to its limits. BRINK XR co-founder Akin Bilgic noted that approximately 90% of their work involves optimizing experiences for VR headsets. The Iceland Riverbed was chosen for its relatively flat topography, making it suitable for a Virtual Desktop environment where users are expected to be more stationary. This new feature allows users to conduct activities like PC streaming, virtual disp...
