College Graduates Nationwide Protest Pro-AI Commencement Speakers
Graduation ceremonies across the United States have witnessed significant backlash against pro-artificial intelligence (AI) commencement speakers. Notably, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt faced jeers from approximately 10,000 graduates at the University of Arizona. Similar reactions were reported at the University of Central Florida and Middle Tennessee State University, where speakers Gloria Caulfield and Scott Borchetta were met with disapproval. Additionally, an AI system misreading graduates' names at Glendale Community College further fueled discontent. The widespread protests reflect growing public scrutiny and skepticism towards AI, particularly concerning its implications for employment and privacy.
