Uber to Deploy 500 Data-Collection Vehicles for Autonomous Driving
Uber has unveiled a prototype vehicle equipped with sensors to collect real-world driving data for its autonomous vehicle partners, including Avride, Waymo, and WeRide. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles are fitted with cameras, lidar sensors, and radars to gather data for robotaxis. Uber plans to deploy 500 of these vehicles globally, collecting 2 million miles of data per month. This initiative is part of Uber's AV Labs division, which aims to create a comprehensive training dataset for autonomous driving software.
