Ranking Member Raskin Initiates Probe into Big Tech's Use of NDAs in Data Center Projects
Representative Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, has launched an investigation into Amazon, Google, Meta, and Oracle regarding their use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) with local government officials. These NDAs are reportedly preventing officials from disclosing crucial information about proposed data center projects to their constituents. The investigation aims to uncover how these secrecy agreements impact public understanding of project costs, including water and energy consumption, and whether they have been used to block public records requests. Raskin has demanded that the four tech giants provide copies of their NDAs, disclose projected electricity and water usage for their U.S. data centers, and explain their continued use of such agreements, especially after Microsoft announced in March that it would no longer require NDAs with local governments.
