Shillman Journalism Prize Launches to Support Young Citizen Journalists in U.S.
Phelim and Ann McAleer have announced the launch of the Shillman Journalism Prize, a national contest aimed at young citizen journalists and emerging reporters in the U.S. The prize seeks original reporting, not opinion pieces, focusing on untold or improperly told stories that are often local or state-based. The contest is open to individuals under 25 years of age who are not currently employed full-time in journalism and are living legally in the U.S. The initiative is supported by a grant from Doctor Bob Shillman and The Shillman Foundation. An expert panel will select the top ten submissions, which will then be published on Substack, followed by a public vote to determine the winners. The prizes include $10,000 for first place, $5,000 for second, and $2,500 for third. The organizers emphasize the importance of uncovering truth, especially in cases where mainstream media may have ignored or misreported events, citing their past work on the Kermit Gosnell case and the Mark Steyn climate-change defamation...
