Turks and Caicos Islands Government Reaffirms Commitment to Evolving Telecommunications Infrastructure with Starlink Integration
The Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) Government has reiterated its dedication to a comprehensive telecommunications strategy, integrating satellite technology while maintaining support for existing providers like Flow and Digicel. This commitment was highlighted during the recent licensing of Starlink Caribbean LLC, a process that took two years to finalize. Kenva Williams, Director General of the TCI Telecommunications Commission, emphasized that Starlink is intended to supplement, not replace, the current infrastructure. Minister responsible for Telecommunications Shaun Malcolm also affirmed the government's ongoing support for existing providers as technology advances. The decision to license Starlink followed extensive consultation, with 80% of respondents expressing a desire for the satellite internet service.
