U.S. Passport Drops to 10th Place in Global Visa-Free Travel Rankings
The United States has experienced a decline in its global passport ranking, now positioned at 10th place according to the Henley Passport Index 2026. This index evaluates passports based on the number of countries their holders can enter without a visa. The U.S. passport currently allows visa-free access to 180 countries, a significant drop from its previous top position in 2014. Singapore leads the index, offering visa-free access to 192 destinations. The index highlights the United Arab Emirates as the most improved, rising from 62nd place in 2006 to joint second place, alongside Japan and South Korea, with access to 188 countries. The index also notes a global trend of increased mobility, with the average passport now allowing access to 108 destinations, nearly double since the index's inception in 2006.
