Italian Man Investigated for Transporting Crocodile Head in Luggage from Miami
An Italian man is under investigation after authorities at Sandro Pertini airport in Caselle Torinese, Turin, discovered a dried crocodile head in his luggage. The passenger had traveled from Miami, with a layover in Istanbul, before arriving in Italy. Turin’s Guardia di Finanza reported that the man was found to be importing a specimen belonging to a protected species without the necessary certificate or license. The crocodile head was seized, and the man faces potential penalties including a fine ranging from $23,200 to $232,000, or a prison sentence of six months to one year if convicted. This incident is part of increased baggage checks by Turin’s Guardia di Finanza and customs officials during the summer months, prompted by a rise in tourists visiting exotic locations.
