Old Fashion Donuts Café Grand Opening Draws Hundreds in Homewood
Old Fashion Donuts & Café, along with Hibbing’s Hot Dogs, celebrated their grand opening in Homewood, attracting hundreds of community members. The event, held on June 1, featured free donuts and hot dogs for attendees. Joe Peters, the owner of the Hibbing’s Building where both restaurants are located, was mentored by Burritt L. Bullock, the owner of the original Old Fashioned Donuts in Chicago. The interior of the establishments is decorated with antiques and Chicago memorabilia, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. The event was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials, including Homewood Village Trustee Phillip Mason, who praised the cultural significance of Old Fashioned Donuts in the African American community on Chicago's South Side.
