Houston Under Flood Watch for Memorial Day Weekend Amid Heavy Rain Threat
Coastal counties in Southeast Texas, including the Houston metro area, are under a flood watch through Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The region is expected to experience multiple rounds of thunderstorms over the Memorial Day weekend, with the heaviest rainfall likely near and south of Interstate 10 and east of Interstate 45. An upper-level trough moving across Texas will create favorable conditions for showers and thunderstorms, particularly on Saturday and Sunday. Rainfall amounts could reach up to 2 inches in some areas, with localized flash flooding possible. Forecasters note some uncertainty regarding the exact placement of the heaviest storms, which could shift northward or offshore. Rain activity is expected to decrease Friday evening but may intensify again over the weekend.
