Suspect Dies Following Officer-Involved Shooting in Fort Myers, Florida
A suspect has died following an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Katherine Street in Fort Myers, Florida, on Saturday. The Fort Myers Police Department (FMPD) reported that officers responded to a call for service in the 2300 block of Katherine Street at approximately 5:48 a.m., which subsequently led to the shooting. The individual was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. Following the incident, caution tape surrounded several homes in the area for an extended period as investigators worked to gather evidence and understand the circumstances. Sarah Vansant, a local resident, expressed shock, noting that the neighborhood is typically quiet and such events are uncommon. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has taken the lead in the investigation, and the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard department policy.
