Michigan State University Study to Examine Epigenetic Aging as Marker for Social Stressors and Preterm Birth Risk in Black Women
Michigan State University (MSU) is hosting a study, funded by NIMHD, to investigate epigenetic aging as a marker for social stressors and a biomarker indicating the risk of preterm birth among Black women. The project, led by Dr. Dawn Misra in collaboration with Dr. Carmen Giurgescu from the University of Central Florida, is seeking an on-call Assistant Professor with expertise in metabolomic, lipidomic, and multi-omic analysis, as well as in the study of preterm birth in the U.S. The study cohort comprises 550 Black pregnant women from metropolitan Detroit, MI, and Columbus, OH, enrolled prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers will utilize questionnaire data, biological samples, and maternal medical records to determine if social stressors are associated with an accelerated rDNAm clock among these women, and if women with preterm birth (PTB) exhibit an accelerated rDNAm clock compared to those with term birth. The study also aims to assess the performance of rDNAm associated with PTB relative to other...
