Severe Weather Targets Central Plains and Midwest
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) for severe weather across northeastern Kansas and west-central Missouri. This region is expected to experience strong thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts exceeding 70 mph, large hail, and possibly a tornado or two. Cities such as Kansas City, Manhattan, and Topeka, Kansas, are included in this risk area. Additionally, a broader Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) spans from Michigan and Missouri to the High Plains of Colorado and Montana, where isolated storms with damaging winds and large hail are possible. Cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Omaha, and Rapid City are within this zone. Another Marginal Risk is in place for parts of Mississippi and Alabama, including cities like Jackson and Tuscaloosa, where isolated damaging wind gusts are expected later today and tonight.
