Rep. Jay Obernolte Receives Letters from Citizens Organizing Against Surveillance in Morongo Basin
Residents in the Morongo Basin, California, are actively organizing against the use of surveillance technology, specifically Automated License Plate Readers (Flock cameras), and are directing their concerns to elected officials, including Rep. Jay Obernolte. Grassroots groups, Deflock Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms, hosted an Anti-Surveillance Workshop where approximately 40 residents gathered to learn about and strategize against these surveillance efforts. The Flock cameras capture detailed information about passing vehicles, including license plate numbers, make, model, color, and any distinguishing features, storing this data in a database accessible by system owners and law enforcement.
