City of San Diego Explores City-Owned Properties for Affordable Housing Development
The City of San Diego is actively developing its Affordable Home Development Master Plan, an initiative aimed at identifying existing city-owned land that could be utilized for future affordable housing projects. This effort comes as San Diego grapples with a significant housing shortage, partly due to the high cost and limited availability of undeveloped land. The city has evaluated over 400 properties and has narrowed the list to 20 potential sites, with 11 deemed most promising for development. These sites include seven public libraries (University Heights, University City, Allied Gardens, Mira Mesa, Linda Vista, North Park, Clairemont), two vacant lots in Point Loma and San Ysidro, and city workyards in Clairemont and Golden Hill.
