Flash Flood Risk in Appalachians Due to Heavy Rainfall
The National Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has issued a Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion (MPD 0875) highlighting the risk of flash flooding in parts of southern West Virginia, southwest Virginia, eastern Tennessee, and western North Carolina. Heavy rainfall, with rates of up to 2 inches per hour, is expected as storm clusters move southeastward along a warm front. These storms are fueled by high instability (MUCAPE values of 1,000-1,500 J/kg) and abundant moisture (precipitable water values around 1.75 inches).
