FDA Elevates GreenWise Blueberry Recall to Highest Risk Level Amid E. coli Outbreak
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has upgraded the recall of GreenWise Organic frozen blueberries and whole mixed berries to a Class I designation, its most serious classification. This action follows an investigation into a potentially dangerous E. coli outbreak that has sickened 12 individuals and led to four hospitalizations. The illnesses were reported in Florida and Georgia between May 11 and June 5. Initially, a single lot of GreenWise organic blueberries was recalled on July 3 by Chile-based Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. after testing indicated a presumptive positive for E. coli. Subsequently, Publix expanded the recall to include all lots of GreenWise Organic Frozen Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries.
