Hurricane Isaias Strengthens, Threatens Gulf Coast with Heavy Rain and Flooding
Hurricane Isaias has intensified into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph). The storm is currently located approximately 460 miles (745 km) south-southwest of the Mississippi River and is expected to make landfall between the Mississippi coast and the Florida Panhandle late Friday or early Saturday. The National Hurricane Center has warned of heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding in the affected areas. States of emergency have been declared in Alabama and Florida, with preparations underway to mitigate the storm's impact. Oil and gas production in the Gulf has been significantly disrupted, with 25% of the region's oil production temporarily halted.
