The Farmers Almanac has released its winter forecast for 2026-2027, highlighting the influence of a strong El Niño. This phenomenon, characterized by warmer-than-average water temperatures in the equatorial Pacific, is expected to drive significant weather patterns across the United States. The forecast predicts an active storm track spanning Southern California, the Desert Southwest, Texas, the Gulf Coast, and the Southeast, bringing increased chances of sleet, freezing rain, and snow. Meanwhile, the northern Plains and Upper Midwest may experience drier conditions, though intense cold snaps and snowstorms remain possible. The Pacific Northwest is likely to see warmer temperatures and below-average snowfall, while the Northeast faces a complex mix of heavy snow inland and rain or mixed precipitation along the coast.
