Dangerous Heatwave Spreads from Western U.S. to Midwest and East
A dangerous heatwave, which has already impacted millions in the Western United States, is now spreading across the Midwest and is expected to move eastward through early next week. Parts of southern California and Arizona, including Phoenix, Tucson, and Palm Springs, experienced extreme heat warnings until Saturday evening. Residents in these areas were advised to avoid prolonged outdoor activity and conserve energy. Heat advisories were also in effect for coastal Southern California, including Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The heat index is projected to reach near 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday afternoon in cities like Wichita, Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri, and Des Moines, Iowa. By Tuesday, cities such as Chicago, Charlotte, Raleigh, Richmond, and Washington, D.C., are expected to experience temperatures in the upper 90s with heat index values exceeding 100 degrees. Most of the Northeast, however, is anticipated to miss this particular round of dangerous heat.
