Fire Destroys Historic Centennial Mills in Portland
A four-alarm fire has destroyed the historic Centennial Mills in Portland, Oregon. The fire, which broke out on Sunday afternoon, led to the collapse of all eight stories of the vacant industrial warehouse. More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene, but structural concerns prevented them from entering the building. The fire department is using 3D mapping to investigate the cause and assess the building's integrity. Centennial Mills, a former flour mill, was purchased by the city in 2000 for redevelopment but has remained largely unused. The site has been a point of contention among developers and preservationists.
