Armed Man Dies in Officer-Involved Shooting in Mesa, Arizona
An armed man was shot and killed by a Mesa police officer late Monday evening in a neighborhood near Mesa Drive and McKellips Road. Mesa police officers responded to reports of a man threatening others with a firearm. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the individual, but he refused to exit his residence. During the incident, officers observed the armed man holding a weapon over a block wall in a backyard, at which point one officer discharged their firearm, striking him. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified. Mesa police indicated that they had previously responded to calls involving the same individual for similar threats involving a weapon. No officers were injured during the incident, and authorities have stated there is no ongoing threat to the community. Gilbert Police will be investigating the shooting as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Team.
