Extreme Heat Wave Sweeps Across Southern U.S., Linked to Climate Change
An extreme heat wave is affecting over 80 million people across the Southern Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, and Southwest U.S. this week. Daytime temperatures are soaring above 100°F, with some areas in Arizona and New Mexico expected to exceed 110°F. The National Weather Service has issued Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories, highlighting the risk of heat-related illnesses due to prolonged high temperatures and minimal overnight cooling. Scientists attribute the increasing frequency and intensity of such heat waves to human-caused climate change, primarily driven by fossil fuel emissions.
