Intense Dust Storms Sweep Through Phoenix, Reducing Visibility
Phoenix experienced two intense dust storms, known as haboobs, which significantly reduced visibility and covered the area in thick haze. These storms, classified as Category 5 events, were among the most severe to hit the region in years, with wind speeds reaching 50 mph. The storms occurred late at night, minimizing traffic disruptions. Researchers from Arizona State University noted the rarity of such back-to-back severe dust storms, attributing them to the region's drier-than-normal conditions. Despite the intensity, there were no significant impacts reported.
