Phoenix Police Officers Under Investigation for Alleged Use-of-Force and Body Camera Violations
Two Phoenix police officers are currently under criminal investigation for allegedly failing to report their use of force and not activating their body cameras during a traffic stop on August 5. The investigation reportedly began after two individuals informed Tempe police that they were assaulted by unknown suspects posing as officers. This incident occurred near 19th Avenue and Broadway Road in Phoenix. Phoenix police spokesperson Cmdr. Mercedes Fortune stated that the department's Special Operations Detail is conducting a criminal investigation into the officers' actions, and both officers have been placed on administrative leave. Once the criminal investigation concludes, the department's Professional Standards Bureau will initiate an administrative investigation to determine if any department policies were violated.
