Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema Sued Over Affair Allegedly Initiated at Wine Country Airbnb
Former Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema is facing a lawsuit from the ex-wife of a former member of her security detail, Matthew Ammel, under North Carolina's 'alienation of affection' law. Sinema has admitted to an affair with Ammel, which reportedly began in May 2024 at an Airbnb in either Sonoma or Napa County. The lawsuit, filed by Heather Ammel, alleges that Sinema played a role in the dissolution of her marriage. Sinema is attempting to have the North Carolina suit dismissed in federal court, arguing that the affair was initiated and conducted outside the state, thus North Carolina lacks personal jurisdiction over her. An evidentiary hearing is scheduled in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to determine the validity of her jurisdiction argument.
