Floodwaters Turn Streets Into Rivers in Mesa, Scottsdale
Severe storms swept through the Phoenix area, particularly impacting Mesa and Scottsdale, Arizona. Heavy rainfall caused significant flooding, turning streets into rivers and leaving behind mud and debris. In Mesa, near 64th Street and McKellips, floodwaters reached six to seven inches, inundating roads and alleys. Emergency crews conducted water rescues, pulling stranded drivers from vehicles caught in rising waters. Scottsdale also experienced severe flooding, with water levels climbing to nearly two feet near the 101 and Raintree, submerging several vehicles. State troopers used four-wheel-drive vehicles to assist in moving stalled cars to safety. Residents described the flooding as unprecedented, with some witnessing such conditions for the first time in decades. The storms have left the region grappling with cleanup efforts and assessing the damage.
