Arizona Man Indicted for $33 Million Medicaid Fraud Targeting Native Americans
Maurice Marcell Williams, a 48-year-old Peoria man and convicted felon, has been indicted on federal charges in Arizona. He is accused of orchestrating a $33 million Medicaid fraud scheme by hiding his ownership in a healthcare treatment company and submitting fraudulent charges for services to Native Americans. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Phoenix stated that Williams operated Thinking and Learning Together 2, LLC, a behavioral treatment provider, despite corporate records listing his son as the company's head. Williams failed to disclose his felon status when applying as a service provider with the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), the state’s Medicaid system. Between May 2022 and May 2023, his company allegedly billed AHCCCS for services that were never rendered, resulting in approximately $19.7 million in payments to Williams’ company.
