Phoenix Faces Dust Storms and Extreme Heat Amid Monsoon Activity
Phoenix experienced strong winds and blowing dust Sunday evening, prompting a dust storm warning that has since expired. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are persisting across northern and southeastern Arizona, while extreme heat continues to grip the region. Temperatures in Phoenix peaked at 113°F (45°C), just shy of the 114°F (46°C) record set in 2011. The First Alert Day for extreme heat remains in effect through Saturday, August 29. Monday morning is expected to start with lingering clouds before clearing to mostly sunny skies, with a high of 109°F (43°C). In the high country, scattered showers and storms will continue through Monday, tapering off by Tuesday, though the White Mountains will see storm chances throughout the workweek.
