Kentucky Woman Petitions for New Helmet Law Following Father's ATV Accident
Brooklynn Adkins, the daughter of William 'Wee Wee' Adkins, who suffered a fatal ATV accident, is advocating for a change in Kentucky's helmet laws. Her father was involved in a severe accident on Christmas Eve and was not wearing a helmet at the time. Despite surviving the initial incident, he later succumbed to complications, including pneumonia, on May 8, 2026. Current Kentucky law mandates helmet use for riders under 16, but for those over 16, helmets are only required on public property, with exceptions for certain work-related activities. Brooklynn has initiated a petition to extend helmet requirements to all riders, regardless of the property type, aiming to prevent similar tragedies.
