Restoration Efforts Underway After Dragon Bravo Fire Devastates Kaibab Plateau
The Dragon Bravo Fire, which ignited on July 4, 2025, and burned approximately 150,000 acres across the Grand Canyon's North Rim and Kaibab National Forest, has left significant ecological damage in its wake. The fire destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and severely impacted North Canyon, home to one of only two perennial streams on the Kaibab Plateau. Restoration crews are now working to mitigate erosion caused by monsoon rains, which threaten to wash away nutrient-rich soils and further damage the ecosystem. Efforts include felling burned trees and constructing sediment traps to protect the stream and its surrounding meadows. The area is home to unique species, including the Apache trout and a rare stonefly species, both of which are at risk due to the fire's impact.
