U.S. Siblings Provide Remote STEM Education to Students in Nairobi, Kenya

For the past two years, siblings Eshaan and Shriya Basu from Milpitas, California, have been providing remote STEM education to 15 students in Nairobi, Kenya. These students, ranging from elementary to high school age, reside in Kibera, one of Africa’s largest low-income urban communities. The program, facilitated via Zoom, offers lessons in subjects from coding to the periodic table. Eshaan, a sophomore at Milpitas High School, and Shriya, a 7th grader at Thomas Russell Middle School, serve as ambassadors for the nonprofit organization Education Empowers Inc. This organization aims to deliver free STEM programs globally. The siblings recently traveled to Kenya to meet their students in person, experiencing their environment and bonding with them. During their visit, Eshaan also taught the students basketball skills, and they shared a memorable meal at KFC, an experience considered a once-in-a-lifetime event for the Nairobi students.

An 18-year-old, Jordin Jacobie Coles of Pleasant Grove, was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in Birmingham, Alabama, early Tuesday morning. The incident, which occurred before 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes near University Boulevard, involved two vehicles and a motorcycle. Coles was driving a vehicle that collided with a motorcycle, subsequently causing his vehicle to leave the interstate, go off an embankment, and come to rest on 11th Street South behind a Birmingham fire station. Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews treated one individual with minor injuries at the scene on the interstate. Authorities have shut down lanes on I-65 as Birmingham police investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirmed Coles' identity.

A 2021 Forbes article indicated Kelce was an investor in a fund co-founded by Jawahar.
