Phoenix Police Investigate Thefts of Metal Items from Church and Cemetery
Phoenix Police are actively searching for suspects involved in a series of thefts targeting a local church and cemetery. Detectives estimate that approximately $25,000 worth of bronze plaques were stolen from St. Francis Cemetery. Additionally, copper door handles were taken from St. Theresa Parish. The incidents occurred in the early morning hours, with the cemetery break-in on August 12 and the church theft on August 26. Authorities are looking for an older black Jeep Grand Cherokee, described as having a roof rack, aftermarket silver rims, a paper license plate, and a broken rear light, which is believed to be the getaway vehicle. Phoenix Police Department Sgt. Sheree Lee stated that 17 bronze plaques were stolen from a mausoleum at St. Francis Cemetery. At St. Theresa Parish, a damaged door and two stolen copper door handles were discovered just hours before morning mass.
