National Hurricane Center Monitors 3 Tropical Waves as Peak Season Nears
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently monitoring three tropical waves in the Atlantic basin as the region approaches the peak of hurricane season on September 10. The Atlantic basin includes the northern Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of America (formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico). As of September 3, 2026, the tropics remain relatively quiet, with no immediate hurricane threats to Florida. Former Tropical Storm Edouard has weakened but continues to bring heavy rainfall and flooding to parts of Texas, with some areas expected to receive up to 22 inches of rain. Meanwhile, Florida residents can anticipate periodic downpours and thunderstorms through the Labor Day weekend, influenced by enhanced moisture and a slow-moving boundary.
