Dry Weather Brings Hope After Isaias Left the South in Ruins
Dry weather is expected to help communities across the Southeast recover after Hurricane Isaias struck near Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 storm with 105 mph winds. More than 150,000 utility customers in Florida and Alabama remained without electricity Monday, while fallen trees, damaged buildings and flooding continue to disrupt recovery. Bellwood, Alabama, recorded nearly 13 inches of rain, and some rivers along Florida’s Panhandle could remain at or above minor flood levels into Tuesday. Although fewer showers should help crews clear debris and restore power, rising temperatures into the upper 80s and lower 90s could create additional challenges for residents without air conditioning. Meanwhile, heavy rain could still trigger flash flooding in parts of the Northeast.
