Florida Family Missing After Private Plane Crashes En Route from Bahamas
A Florida couple, Mario Lamar, 80, and Lili Lamar, 79, along with their two grandchildren, Sofia Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22, are missing after their private plane crashed near Andros Island in the Bahamas. The five-seater PA-34 Piper aircraft, en route to Opa-locka, Florida, departed from Great Harbor Cay. Bahamian authorities received a report of the plane plummeting into the water 13 miles west of Andros Island at 2:20 p.m. on Monday. FlightAware data indicates the aircraft went off radar after its speed rapidly fluctuated and its altitude dropped from 10,000 feet to 3,700 feet in just three minutes. The family had spent Labor Day weekend at their vacation home in Great Harbor Cay. Silvia Larrieu, a niece of Mario and Lili, stated that the flight passed through rough weather near the north end of Andros Island, which initially hindered search efforts.
